Copper Waves was begun in 1995 as a family business intent on creating quality copper fountains, decorations and industrial artifacts such as handrails and lighting.
The family consisted of Michael Martin (the Dad), Rebecca (the Daughter), and Jonathan (the Son). They appeared at Art shows all across the U.S. and their artwork was well received by both the general public and the wholesale trade.
Then came 9/11. Rebecca and Jonathan moved to the west coast. Michael split his time between Key West and New England doing art shows.
Now here in 2011 Jonathan and his son Ian are back in Rhode Island. Rebecca is married with two fabulous children Danru and Kat and lives in Calgary, Canada. Michael is caregiver to wife Kate who developed MS.
Like most people, they are all dealing with the challenges of recession. The enormous price increases of copper, shipping, fuel and healthcare have forced them to consider major changes in their business model. Essentially they don't have one! Michael and Jonathan consider themselves hobbyists, creating copper artwork on a limited basis (mostly for the appreciation of family and friends). Rebecca is very much involved with creating one-of-a-kind copper artwork, lighting and gates.
However, any of the fountains, decorations and artifacts pictured on this website can be created just for you by special arrangement. Your ideas are also encouraged.
